School’s Out For Summer (Well, Almost!)

And just like that, the final days of this school year are upon us! With only 5 days left, there are still a few things to share.  Please make note of the following announcements:

Trip to Emmanuel Bible Camp

On Monday, June 19th, students in grades 1-6 will be travelling by bus to Emmanuel Bible Camp for their year-end trip. They will enjoy a variety of camp activities such as pellet range, archery, rock wall climbing, sports, crafts, camp-wide games, swimming and canoeing (water sports will be only for students in grades 3-6). Students should pack a lunch that does not need to be heated. Also, they should come prepared with bug spray, sunscreen, a hat, layered clothing (in case it becomes cold), swim wear (for students grades 3-6), and sneakers. Students also wishing to purchase a small treat from the tuck shop, should bring their own money.  Items such as chocolate bars, ice cream, chips, candy, juice, etc are $1.50 each.

The bus will be leaving at 9:00, so please be at school on time. Students are asked to bring $2.00 to cover the cost of the bus. If you are interested in chaperoning, or have any questions, please feel free to contact me. This should be a great time to relax and have fun in the great outdoors!

Family Fun Day At Sandspit:   NO CLASSES

It is that time again – Thursday, June 22nd will be our annual GCS Sandspit day! The ride bracelets this year will be $12.75 per person and allow for all rides except the go karts. All parents are required to pay for their own bracelets. When purchasing bracelets, let the cashier know you are with the GCS group. Hours of operation are from 9:30am – 3:30pm. This is a great opportunity for you to come and enjoy your children and the fellowship of other parents. You are reminded that there is no supervision by GCS staff and each parent is responsible for either attending with their children or making provision for their children to be cared for.

School Closing:

Please join us on Friday, June 23rd, at 9:30 AM as we celebrate the 2016-2017 school year. Several of our students will be honored throughout the ceremony for their achievements and contributions to GCS this past year.  Following the ceremony, students will return to class to pick up their final report cards and will be dismissed for the summer.  Please ensure that your child is picked up by 11:30 AM.

Students who cannot attend School Closing are asked to make arrangements to pick up their report cards from the office the following week, as report cards will not be given out prior to the celebration.

Thank-you to each of you who have partnered with me this past school year to ensure your child’s educational journey inside my classroom was a success.  Enjoy your summer vacation!

Dress Code Reminder:

The flowers are growing fast and so are your children. In fact, students may be growing out of their clothing that fit them last fall! Thank you parents for working with us in dressing your children appropriately for school, so with the change in seasons, we wish to provide you with this reminder.

As stated in the GCS Handbook the school’s overall dress code standard is modest, clean, neat, and appropriate. Shorts and skirts must not be shorter than just above the knee, which is typically to the tips of the fingers on most children. Girls are permitted to wear sleeveless shirts as long as the straps are wider than three finger widths (please no shirts with thin spaghetti straps). Clothing with a rebellious or negative message are considered dress code violations.

All kindergarten and elementary students must have a second pair of shoes to be worn inside. According to provincial regulations, kindergarten and elementary students are required to wear socks at all times while at school. Sandals are not permitted for this reason.

We are thrilled to see our elementary students wearing GCS apparel on a daily basis. We are even more excited when we see our parents embracing their GCS pride and purchasing clothes for themselves. For those wishing to purchase GCS apparel, please visit our online clothing store at: http://gracecs.entripyshops.com/. New items are being added regularly.
