Mrs. Devries will be having a Knight Lights practice on Saturday, March 31st, from 3:30 pm – 5:00 pm to help prepare the group for the upcoming music festival. Please let Mrs. Devries know if you are unable to attend.

Spelling Bee News…
Congratulations to Hannah McGonnell who got second place in the Canspell Regional Spelling Bee on Saturday at UPEI. Hannah, we are so proud of you!
Weekly Reminders (March 12th-16th)….
Just a week until March Break!
This week is Winter Carnival. Here are the themes for each day: Monday- PJ’s, Tuesday- Twin Day, Thursday- Superhero Day, and Friday- Green Day.
Wednesday is skiing day at Brookvale.
Heritage Fair is Monday. All students should set up their projects in the gym upon arrival. Presentations will be made in the morning for the judges and in the afternoon for the class. The class presentations will be worth two history test grades.
Oral Book Reports will be presented in class on Friday. Students will need to dress up as a character from the book they have read.
Weekly Reminders (March 5th-9th)…
Heritage Fair is next Monday, March 12th. Remember that this project is worth two history grades. Projects will be set up in the gym upon arrival. The students will make presentations to the judges throughout the morning and in the afternoon, presentations will be made to the class.
Next week is Winter Carnival Week, a list of the special days will be coming home soon.
Skating on Friday at the Simmons arena
On Thursday, two nursing students from UPEI will be giving a presentation on hygiene to the class.
On Saturday, Hannah McGonnell will be participating in the Regional Spelling Bee at UPEI. We are so excited for her!
Skating Tomorrow….
Our skating tomorrow has relocated to the outdoor rink behind the Charlottetown Mall- where the Jack Frost Festival was.
Please pick up your child there tomorrow at 2:30 or let me know if they need a ride back to the school.
Weekly Reminders (Feb. 27th- Mar.2nd)….
Please send in the consent form for the UPEI history project that our class has an opportunity to take part in. It is a 12 week study, so we need to get started as soon as possible.
Science is finished, so this week the class will begin health.
Our school Heritage Fair is fast approaching. There are several websites with images of Heritage projects on the web. Display boards can be purchased at Staples. Monday, March 12th, is Heritage Fair Day.
Both classes have been assigned their next book report – a classic. On Friday, March 16th, the students will need to present an oral book report to the class dressed as one of the characters from the book.
Skating on Friday at the Simmons Arena- if your child needs a ride back to the school, please send in a note or e-mail.

Special guest speaker on Wednesday- Kelly Gillis from UPEI will be talking about an exciting history project we can be a part of.
Science Test on Thursday- last science test of the year. We’ll be studying health next.
New book report books need to be chosen by Wednesday- a classic story.

It’s Love of Reading Week- here at GCS. Mrs. H, our librarian, has some fun days planned to celebrate reading: February 14th- Dress Up Day- dress up like your favourite book character. February 15th- Book cover contest- create a poster of your favourite book cover.
Tuesday- Valentine’s Day party at the CARI Pool complex- send in some goodies with your child.
Wednesday- Animal Poster Presentations
Friday- Skiing at Brookvale.
Be sure to keeping working on your Heritage Fair project. Remember our school fair will be held on March 12th.

February 9th-10th- Parent Teacher Conferences.. sign up sheets are available at the school entrance.
February 14th- Valentine’s Day party at the CARI pool complex. Permission slips will go home on Monday.
February 15th- Animal Poster projects are due.
February 17th- Skiing at Brookvale.
February 20th- No school- Islander Day
February 24th- Skating at the Simmons Arena
